A YOUNG volunteering group in Westbury, Team 10, has been shortlisted for a national award celebrating their ‘inspirational’ work in the housing sector.
Team 10 are a group of children from Westbury Junior School who live in the Penleigh and Oldfield Park area of Westbury.
They provide a young voice for the area, working with the adult residents’ group POPCAN and Sovereign Housing group, providing ideas on how the area can be improved for the residents including updates to the park, making paths safer and future plans for the community.
The team has been shortlisted for the ‘Inspirational Young Tenant of the Year Award’ in the Tpas awards 2020, with the winners being announced at an event in Manchester on 27th March.
Tpas are England’s leading tenant engagement experts.
Their annual awards recognise and reward excellence and best practice in the housing sector. They celebrate the remarkable volunteers, housing staff and contractors who bring lasting change to communities.
Scott Jacobs-Lange, communities officer at Sovereign said, “We work alongside residents who come forward to create the kind of community they want to be a part of. The Penleigh and Oldfield Park community has so much energy, ambition and determination – it’s been a pleasure to work with the young people of Team 10. They can take pride in their achievements that show them collaborating with adult community members to make changes that benefit everyone!”
Jenny Osbourne MBE, chief executive of Tpas said, “The Tpas awards is our opportunity to celebrate incredible work, done by people who always say they were ‘just doing their job’ or ‘I just want to make my neighbourhood better,’ despite the huge pressures on volunteers, landlords and contractors.
“Our awards and nominees embody the positive, partnership working ethos that Tpas is here to champion and we’ve been celebrating remarkable people doing remarkable things now for 13 years. 2020 is going to be no exception”.
