A large turnout at the Southwick Country park-run on Saturday 3rd August saw the 118 runners from Southwick join over 40,000 nationwide to complete the 5k free run – including Mark and Gretchen Tucker from Dilton Marsh who have both completed 50 Southwick runs.
By coincidence Southwick also completed a total distance since its conception in 2011 of 40,000km the same week.
Mark and Gretchen epitomise the family style ethos of the parkrun as well as seeing some elite athletes hit some very competitive times.
Of the 118 runners, 24 were first timers and 26 recorded new personal bests. Representatives of 17 different athletics clubs took part.
Southwick Country park-run started in September 2011, and since then 1,727 different runners, including participants from 146 athletics clubs, have completed 8,105 runs covering a total distance of 40,525 km, and there have been 1,973 new personal bests.
