Sat. 28th Sept. Toolstation Premier Div. Westbury Utd 5 Wellington 0
This match was as good as over by the 18th minute after Westbury striker Sam Jordan netted a 9-minute hattrick!
United welcomed back Callum Demkiv and he almost scored twice in the opening minutes, firstly drawing a save out of visiting keeper, Tom Welch, then being tackled by a defender just as he was about to shoot.
Sam Jordan opened the scoring on 8 minutes with a fine finish after being set up by Ricky Hulbert, added the second on 14 with a tap in after Welch made a terrible error at the edge of his box and notched his treble on 17 in confident style by bursting through the Wellington back line, twisting and turning then applying the finishing touch.
Wellington applied sporadic pressure and had several free kicks within shooting distance which Josh Wadham took and saw blocked. In other attacks, Ed Baldy did well to save from Glen Wright and Joe Wylie.
Demkiv was denied again by Welch then, shortly before half time, Ricky Hulbert was fouled inside the penalty area and a spot kick was awarded, Jason Henley dispatched the penalty powerfully to make it 4-0.
To their credit, Wellington went on the front foot after the break; Connor Bryant forced Baldy to save in an attack that came straight from the kick of, then Joe Wylie hit the post with a 20 yarder.
Welch saved a Demkiv header when he got on the end of Jamie Jordan’s accurate delivery, then showed bravery to dive at Sam Jordan’s feet.
With 70 minutes on the clock, Ricky Hulbert broke through and scored the fifth with a fine finish of his own, this was his seventh goal already this season.
Wellington kept going forward and hit the woodwork again through Jack Bryant, while Sam Jordan and Mark Robinson both had chances to add further goals and Ricky Hulbert was strangely adjudged to have fouled his marker and had a goal disallowed!
A morale boosting 3 points, excellent all round performance and clean sheet for United ahead of a very busy October which will have matches in the league, FA Vase, League Cup and County Cup.
