A former Westbury resident has released a song inspired by speaking out about abuse taking place in care homes.
Adeline Dalley has written the song ‘Behind Closed Doors’ with the help of Simon Pollitt, and it is sung by Chantel Baylee.
Adeline has worked for 16 years as a senior carer in more than eight homes. The song complements a book Adeline wrote about the problems that exist in care homes and how they can be addressed.
She said, “After the success of my book ‘Behind Those Care Home Doors’, I enlisted the help of a London artist to help me write this song. The message being, if our own mother or father suffered abuse or neglect, we would blow that whistle and make our voices heard.
“Those in our care are someone else’s most precious and loved family member, their lives entrusted in our hands. We all have the ability to report poor care, no matter what our role. One person alone cannot end this, we must all take responsibility for protecting the vulnerable. Don’t walk away, be their voice, we can make a difference.
“Andrea Sutcliffe the Care Quality Commission head and James Titcombe, hospital safety advisor asked me to attend a meeting recently in London; they were the first to hear my song and have both Tweeted about it. I felt some reassurance about the changes taking place and was happy to have been able to speak to them about what I feel needs to change. Anyone who cares about those we look after will be able to hear my message in the song. This is sung beautifully by Chantel Baylee.”
Adeline, who now lives in Warminster, continued, “I have been in the care industry for 16 years and have been shocked by uncaring professionals who ignore neglect and abuse. Being a previous whistle-blower myself for Sir Douglas Bader’s wife, her daughter kindly not only wrote a foreword for my book but has also designed the CD case.”
The plight of Sir Douglas Bader’s widow, Joan, was featured in the national press which also mentioned Adeline’s attempt to get medical treatment for the famous war pilot’s wife.
The CD is available now from www.adzcre ations.com or call Adeline on 07938 356045. You can also download it via iTunes, Google Play and Amazon MP3.
