Westbury entertained Gloucester City Wingate Cricket Club last month in a West of England League Wiltshire and Gloucestershire Division Premier 2 match hoping to put aside the disappointment of the previous abandoned match against Goatacre.

Westbury named an unchanged side from the previous game. Westbury won the toss and decided to field first.

Westbury opened with the regular bowlers Carroll and Oakley.  They made a superb start when Carroll dismissed Carter off the last ball in the first over  out leg before for 0 with the score at 1.

Tom Collinson was then joined by Cowles and they took the total to 48 when Cowles was caught by  Coles at first slip off the bowling of Mills for 11.

Collinson was then joined by the Gloucester captain Montgomery and the total was gradually quickening with  Montgomery being the dominating batsman in so much so that the 100 came up the 30th over.

When the total reached 114 Westbury struck when the Westbury spinner Hudson struck by having him leg before for a good 40.  When the Westbury  bowlers Senneck and Varley came on they got control of the Gloucester batsman and the scoring rate slowed.  They took 4 quick wickets with the total falling from 114 to 154.

When the total reached 172 the Westbury captain Senneck ripped through the tail by taking three wickets in the over by dismissing Shafiq Marrofkhail (0), Wilshaw (0) and James ( 0) within four balls.  At the end of their innings Gloucester were all out for 173. Senneck (4-32) had the best figures and he was ably supported by Varley ( 2-30), Mills (1-23).  Tom Collinson who scored 61 held the innings together.

When Westbury batted they opened with Coles and Hudson who made a flying start by scoring 60 in the first ten overs. Suddenly  the Gloucester bowlers found their length and they took  4 wickets for 32 runs with Hudson (24), Coles (34), Varley (10) and Mills (4) all back in the pavilion.

Dickinson was then joined by  Senneck and they took their time and played themselves in  and gradually the score rose and the 100 came up in the 23rd over and when the score reached 166 Gloucester took their fifth wicket with Senneck run out by a mix up in their running for a fine 52 off 79 balls in 71 minutes.  Dickinson was then joined by Gill and they had no further alarms and took Westbury to a five wicket win.

With Cheltenham also winning Westbury are still in second place by 8 points.

Man of the match was Alex Senneck sponsored by Church Financial Services.
