Matravers School has conducted its latest “passing out” parade for its newest Combined Cadet Force (CCF) recruits. Colonel Scott of 1 Regiment Army Air Corps, Yeovil, dropped in on Tuesday 27th February.
He also presented the Contingent Eagle Award to Cadet Lewis Applegate for being the ‘outstanding new recruit.’ The school says, “Cadet Lewis has demonstrated the highest standards, supporting all events and going well beyond what is expected of a Cadet.
“Matravers School is honoured to be the only local state school within the area to have secured its own Combined Cadet Force. Our unique CCF complements our traditional ethos and values as a school community, recognising the importance of character education for young people.
“Matravers School CCF is affiliated with 1 Regiment Army Air Corps, Yeovil. We believe that cap badging with the Army Air Corps supports our ideology of group identity within our contingent and creates a greater interest within our school of the variety of roles available within the army.
“The history of the army air corps being stationed in Wiltshire, at old RAF Sarum and our location between the current position of headquarters army air corps at Middle Wallop and 1 Regiment AAC RNAS Yeovilton, creates a positive presence to a location where part of the AAC had begun.
“The regiment has supported us with training, equipment and events. The CCF have also been invited to visit the station, for a guided tour and access to unique features at RNAS Yeovilton such as the underwater dunking trainer.
“Matravers School welcomes students who have a particular interest in this aspect of education to contact us for a visit.”
