From Westbury to Wembley? Young footballer to trial for England

A YOUNG Westbury footballer looks set for the big time after his talent on the pitch was spotted by a local football club manager, leading to a trial with the England football squad.

As well as his trial for the England Under 18 Schoolboys team this month, 15-year-old Louis Wilkins is also taking part in a six-week trial with League One’s Bristol Rovers. He has also enjoyed success with Melksham Town FC and Wiltshire County FA Under 18s team.

Louis’s father, Duncan Wilkins said, “Whilst playing with friends in a preseason friendly, Louis was spotted by Melksham Town FC’s manager Kieran Baggs who asked if he would like to come to Melksham to play for their under 18s team.

“Louis was then handed over to Melksham Town’s under 18s manager, Paul Hughes, with a view of developing Louis into a potential first team player at Town’s Oakfield Stadium. 

“Since this meeting, things have steamrollered for Louis thanks to guidance and hard work. He is now in a six-week trial at Bristol Rovers academy. He has been picked for the Wiltshire County FA Under 18s team and scored on his debut. 

“He has also been invited for trials for England’s Under 18 Schoolboys. No matter what happens, Louis is just enjoying the experience come what may and is continuing to work hard.”
