Leading the way forward for Westbury’s leisure campus

A GROUP to steer the progress of a campus development for Westbury has been formed.

It will consider a campus of services such as the town’s leisure and sports facilities and possibly the library and youth centre, which are currently run by Wiltshire Council, which could be moved together in a single location or multiple sites. The development of the campus will be steered by the new community operations board (COB). Members on this board will be representing the community and will influence, recommend, and consider the detail of the emerging campus facilities. There are eight places on the COB and these have been assigned to cllr Russell Hawker, who will represent Westbury Area Board; cllr Sue Ezra who will represent the town and parish councils (subject to ratification); Toni Brodie, a deputy headteacher at Matravers, on behalf young people and education; Rev. Jonathan Burke, a member of the BA13+ Community Area Partnership; Mike Parker, a member of the Westbury Leisure Alliance; and Brenda Pyne and Tara Huntley who have also been made members of the COB. Wiltshire Council’s representative is Hannah Day. Wiltshire Council has stated that it wants the town to work from a “blank sheet” to create a facility which suits Westbury’s needs.
