THE local community support centre, Crosspoint, is trying to draw attention to an additional level of funding that is available for those on a state pension that have a disability that requires care and support.
THE local community support centre, Crosspoint, is trying to draw attention to an additional level of funding that is available for those on a state pension that have a disability that requires care and support.
Kevin Fairman, the chair of Crosspoint said, “If you are receiving the state pension and you have developed any form of disability that is severe enough to need care and support, then you may well be eligible for Attendance Allowance.
“It is paid directly to the recipient at two levels – £60.00 and £89.60 per week, and the recipient decides how best to use the money to meet their needs. Anyone providing care to someone in receipt of Attendance Allowance may themselves be entitled to Carer’s Allowance.
“As well as these forms we offer support to anyone who finds it difficult to complete forms, whether on paper or on-line.”
Attendance Allowance isn’t means-tested so it doesn’t matter how much income and savings you have. The lower rate of funding, which is £60, is available for those that need a carer during the day or night and the higher rate of funding, £89.60, is for those that need assistance both during the day and night or the terminally ill.
