DURING 2022, All Saints Church is planning to investigate the history of the building, its objects and the people who worshipped there and they would like your help. If you have ever wanted to find out more about the oldest building in Westbury and the only one that is Grade 1 Listed, now is your chance.
All Saints will be collaborating with professional archivist Layla Fedyk who lives in Westbury. The research will be volunteer-led so you will be able to choose which area of research you would like to work on. There will be an initial meeting in March to find out more about the project and then monthly meetings as the group works together to gather information and discover more.
The information will be added to the digital platform Izi Travel so that visitors can find out about the church online either as part of their visit or from home.
The group will be using existing material and working with the Westbury branch of the Wiltshire Family History Society and the Westbury Heritage Society. They may also make a visit to the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre in Chippenham where records related to the church are kept. No experience necessary as training will be provided.
Revd Rebecca Harris, Team Rector said, “We hope that people in Westbury interested in the history of their town will get involved in this exciting project and help us discover more about the stories of the Church. We are looking forward to finding out what they discover.”
Beth Thomas, Churchwarden, added, “We know that many people love All Saints Church. This project continues our work last year with the Wiltshire Medieval Graffiti Survey. We hope that putting the information online will encourage more people to discover our beautiful church and come to Westbury to find out more. You don’t need any experience just a passion for history.”
