WESTBURY yarn bombers have big plans for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations, as the group is planning to yarn bomb the Westbury Leigh Church Hall.
The project will be installed on the 20th May, two weeks before the jubilee, and the art installation will be on display throughout June. The church hall is the primary target for yarn bombing, but the group say they will also target post boxes in the local area.
A spokesperson for the group said, “We’ve been inundated with donated supplies from some of our own members, but a big thank you to Westbury Leigh C of E Primary School, the ladies from Woolly Wednesdays (the local craft club), the Woolery in Westbury, Morrisons in Warminster and even Center Parcs who donated materials and their time to make this event a possibility.
“We hope people take the time to check out our displays during the Jubilee celebrations in Westbury Leigh.”
The group will set up a JustGiving page soon as they look to raise money for the Westbury Leigh Community Project (a not-for-profit undertaking run entirely by local people for the benefit of the local community). Any money raised will be added to the projects pot, to generate more events for the community. Organiser of the Jubilee event at the community hall, Andrew Field said “Whist the yarn bombing marks the beginning of the Jubilee celebrations in Westbury Leigh, our main event is a Jubilee Fete which will be held on Friday 3rd June in the grounds of the community hall.
“The aim is to bring the community together and to celebrate with cream teas, picnics, and hotdogs, as well as games for the kids, stalls and a crafts and baking competition. We are keeping our fingers crossed for sunny weather, so we can all enjoy a traditional British event.”
