THE Rotary Club of Westbury recently treated local children to a day out at Longleat as part of National KidsOut Day on 8th June.
Westbury Rotary funded and transported ten teachers and/or assistants and 24 kids from Westbury Junior C of E School and Westbury Infant School, who enjoyed the day alongside over 950 kids from across the region.
The club say, “What a wonderful day at Longleat we have had! The sun shone, not too hot and not too cold; we timed our activities successfully to beat the queues and had smiling faces all round! Some of the kids are currently studying ‘habitats’ in the classroom which fits in well with all we have seen and experienced today; there will be lots for them to call upon in lessons on their return.
“We experienced the boat, the train, Rocking Rhino ride, Animal Kingdom, a Punch and Judy show (one of the highlights put on especially for the KidsOut), the carousel and the safari park.”
The first National Rotary KidsOut Day took place in 1990 and since then it has turned into the biggest single outing for disadvantaged children in the UK. With more than 28,000 children participating in 2019, the National Day Out is run nationally in conjunction with Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland.
To make the National Rotary KidsOut Day the success that it is, more than 10,000 Rotarians volunteer on the day at over 100 venues. Whether they live with critical health issues, in refuge or with a disability, children across the country are taken on a fun day out to the zoo, a theme park or even the seaside, often for the first time in their lives.
