TEAM10, Westbury Junior School’s community support group, recently managed to raise £70.70 for the school’s Arts Day through a cake sale on Friday 3rd February.
The team have thanked parents for ‘pudding’ their hands in their pockets and they say they have plans to hold a similar event again soon.
The TEAM10 coordinator Susannah Duval said, “The team and their parents organised a cake sale and baked and sold cakes and other sweet treats to raise money for a whole school Arts Day. The team and their parents worked very hard to raise a phenomenal £70.70; a large feat considering each cake cost only 40p!
“Parents were incredibly generous in their donations, and it was a huge success. One member of the team even gave up her own cake to a disappointed child who arrived after they sold out. TEAM10 hope to repeat this event again very soon while working with the council and other providers to continue to help improving things in the community.”
The team also took into consideration the health and well-being of children in the school and recently decided to set up a tuck shop, which had lapsed during Covid times, to sell healthy snacks at breaktime.
“Giving up their free time, and with the incredible support of the kitchen staff, Brenda Fry and Sarah Perkins (who kindly agreed to help), they resurrected a healthy snack trolley and have been working every breaktime for two weeks to sell fruit to the Westbury Junior School children,” said Susannah.
All sales support the school’s healthy eating campaign. In their first week, the children generated 266 healthy-eating sales and by week two they averaged 55 healthy snacks a day.
Sarah added, “Children were very excited by the tuck shop and will be continuing to enjoy it as they go into next term. It also supports our drive to be environmentally friendly, as the team, supported by adults in the school, worked at lunchtime to clear up rubbish and composting and encourage children to do the same.”
While no date has been set for the Art Day taking place in June/July, any artists who would like to be involved or help out please contact Susannah Duval at the school on admin@westbury-jun.wilts.sch.uk
