STAFF and pupils at Dilton Marsh Primary School recently dressed up as their favourite book characters to kick start ‘Book Week’ at the school.
Pupils were eager to show off their homemade costumes they had created for ‘Book Week.’ New headteacher, Charlotte Hyde, wanted the children to do something fun to start the term, whilst encouraging them to be creative. She said, “The idea behind ‘Book Week’ was to inspire the children to be passionate about reading and discover stories and characters that they may have forgotten about or didn’t know.”
The school’s new deputy headteacher, Jill Farndale, wanted to begin the school year with something positive. She explains, “We are giving our school library a new lease of life with a make over. This week, the children will be putting together their ideas and designing for a mural that will be painted onto the walls in the library.
“We want it to be a magical place, filled with creativity and excitement. The walls will show stories, scenes and settings from the children’s favourite books. We are very lucky to have a brilliantly talented artist at the school, Mrs Masters, who will be painting the mural for us.”
Having only recently arrived at the school, the new headteacher, Charlotte Hyde, is very much looking forward to the future of Dilton Marsh Primary School. She said, “We have had a great start to the term and everyone has made me feel very welcome.
“The school is outstanding and we aim to maintain the high standard, whilst growing and developing in certain areas. The school has a special ethos and core values which we don’t want to lose.
“We will continue to build on the foundations by using the huge range of talents and skills that the staff have. We are very much looking forward to the new school year.”
