THIS year’s Friends of Dilton School (FODS) Scarecrow Trail proved to be extremely popular with the local community once again as Dilton Marsh residents took the opportunity to view the record number of creative entries.
The event raised an impressive £900 that will go towards trips and activities for pupils at the Dilton Marsh CofE Primary School.
The theme of this year’s trail was children’s book characters, and locals had to spot and name the 44 different creations throughout the village. The overall scarecrow winner, as voted for by those completing the trail, was made by Kelly and Neil Lewis and is of Mr Bump, Little Miss Sunshine and Mr Noisy.
In the afternoon, the FODS invited people to enjoy a cream tea at the school.
The FODS chairwoman, Jennifer Johnson, said, “On behalf of FODS and the school, we’d like to thank everyone for their support with the trail – the creative scarecrows makers, those who took part, school staff and The Weavers Pub for selling the maps.
“The cream tea was really popular, and we also appreciate the delicious donations. The trail was a great community event, entertaining all ages and we are delighted to have raised £900 towards school trips and activities.”
Speaking about the event, school pupil Chloe said, “My favourite was Eeyore because I liked how he was made, and he was really cute!”
Another pupil, Poppy, added, “It was fun to walk around the village trying to figure out all the book characters.”
Evie, also from the school, added, “Once we had walked around the village we came back into the school where we met up with friends. Our parents were enjoying the delicious cream teas and catching up.”
