STUDENTS from Matravers School have been praised by the school for their resilience and determination as they celebrated their A-level, GCSE and BTEC results.
Director of Post-16 at the school, Ian Browning, said “We are immensely proud of the resilience that our pupils have shown during the past couple of years, particularly having not had the opportunity to sit their GCSE exams, making the most recent exam season all the more daunting. Throughout their time in the Sixth Form, these pupils have impressed us with their work ethic, determination and positive attitudes – they thoroughly deserve their successes.”
Top A-level performers
Top A-level performers included Kealan Rankin-Moore who achieved A*AAA and is heading to the University of Bath to read physics with astrophysics. Tracy Yao gained A*AB and an A in her extended project qualification (EPQ) and is also going to the University of Bath to study psychology. Kiera Strachan successfully gained a place at Cardiff University to study biomedical sciences having achieved AAB in her A-levels and Ereena Ullah is heading to the University of Leeds to read law having also achieved AAB in her A-levels.
Matravers Sixth Form specialises in a highly successful ‘mixed pathway’ of A-levels and BTEC courses, allowing pupils to move on to a range of competitive destinations. Among the successful pupils this year is Jessica Hallet who got two Distinction*s in her BTEC courses to go with her B at A-level and her EPQ allowing her to study business management (fashion) at Bath Spa University.
Other pupils to achieve Distinction* grades as part of their mixed pathway qualifications include Daniel Jackson and Aimee Duce, with Aimee going on to pursue her interest in working with children through a degree in early childhood studies.
Pupils studying solely BTECs have also performed strongly, including Dylan Coward who achieved three Distinction grades enabling him to go on to study management and finance at the University of Chichester.
Matravers School says it is particularly delighted that the vast majority of pupils have secured places at their preferred universities. Among the successful pupils who will soon be embarking on a varied range of degree courses are Georgina Adlam who will be studying drama (musical theatre) at Bath Spa, Luke Cannon who is moving on the Keele University to study business management and Toby Withers who will be studying games software engineering at Bournemouth University.
Other pupils to have successfully gained places at their preferred universities include Katie Vince-Clark who is heading to the University of Exeter to read history, Eva Watson who will be reading English literature at Lancaster University and Leah Rendall who is moving on to pursue a career in primary education starting her teacher training at UWE.
GCSE and BTEC successes
Commenting on the GCSE and BTEC results the schools says, “Following the reintroduction of post pandemic grade boundaries, we have known that this year was going to be a challenge for the class of 2023, however they have responded superbly to the demands posed by these exams.
“Whilst we celebrate the results of all pupils, we would particularly like to congratulate Tabitha Coleman (five grade 9s, three grade 8 and one D*), Emy Yao (five grade 9s, three grade 8s, and one D*), Ellie White (one grade 9, five grade 8s, one grade 7, and one grade 5 and one D2), Ruby Yates (three grade 9s, two grade 8s, two grade 7s, and one M2). We also would like to congratulate Todd Brazauskas, Amelia Fear, James Hanslip, Chelsea Mackay and Jayden Noakes who all achieved excellent progress through their brilliant exam results.”
Headteacher Dr Simon Riding, added, “We are immensely proud of all the work and achievements of the Matravers family. Our pupils and staff have worked tirelessly to ensure our pupils are all able to move on to their chosen Post 16 Pathway. We are delighted that that so many of our Year 11s will continue their educational journey with the Matravers Family by joining our thriving 6th Form in September.
“The resilience pupils have shown under such difficult conditions over the past three years has been remarkable. Our pupils, as always, have been exceptional! To the pupils who are moving on to apprenticeships and Post 16 Colleges, we wish them luck and look forward to seeing what they will achieve in the future as part of the extend Matravers family alumni.”
- The Matravers School Sixth Form has a broad range of subjects available to new entrants this September. Pupils can opt to study from a wide range of traditional A level subjects, alongside move vocational qualifications in subjects such as Business, IT, Health and Social Care, Criminology, Music and Uniformed Protective Services.
