A PHONE box in the middle of Bratton that has been transformed into a book exchange has been well received by local people and those behind the idea are encouraging more people to make use of the new village amenity.
Bratton Parish Council purchased the phone box for just £1 and cllrs Catherine Elliot and Stephen Lloyd, along with members of the Westbury Shed, refurbished the phone box and gave it a new lease of life. The idea for the phone box book exchange is that once you take a book you replace it with a new addition.
Cllr Elliot said, “It’s been well received so far, and I have seen quite a few people make use of it and it’s been well looked after which is great to see! I created the ‘exchange’ mosaic on the top but this has been a real community effort.
“We had some issues at the start as some people saw it as an opportunity to get rid of any unwanted old books and we were inundated with items but it has become more manageable now.
“It’s a work in progress at the moment – in the future we want to add maps of the walking routes in and around the village, including some history walks, as well as introducing QR codes so people can find out more about what’s on the parish council website.”
