BRATTON Primary School could soon see a lot more wildlife on the school grounds thanks to their involvement with the pollinator project.
The Pollinator Project is an initiative to provide and enhance established habitats and nectar sources on sites for pollinating insects like butterflies, moths, hoverflies, bumble bees, solitary bees and also to the school’s resident honey bees.
A spokesperson for the school said, “We had the pleasure of hosting cllr Suzanne Wickham, and Eddie and Chris from the Bratton Community Orchard Volunteers. During the visit they met with students from Giraffe class, and presented the school with an official pollinator project sign for the school’s commitment to the project.
“Cllr Wickham has been leading on this project for the village parish council, in association with the Westbury Area Board’s pollinator corridor plan. The school was very kindly donated wildflower seeds earlier in the year which has been planted by both the Bratton Community Orchard Volunteers on the school grounds, as well as Bratton Primary School students during their weekly Forest School sessions with our Forest School leader, Mrs Midgley.
“We are very lucky to have such a large, green and heavily wooded school site. The nature area by the recently redeveloped pond area has made a perfect zone to create a large wildflower environment for nature to really blossom, and for the students to witness the positive impact of helping boost the environment for all.
“Bratton Primary School pupils are all very excited to see how the project develops as the flowers become established and bloom, and adore the idea of having a ‘happy bee highway’ on the school grounds!”
