March saw the arrival of Village Hall Week, an annual event that, this year, celebrated volunteers who give up their time to serve the community.
At Bratton’s Jubilee Hall, villagers of all ages gathered on 15th March to mark the occasion and highlight local groups that make a difference.
Sian Morgan, who organised the event on behalf of the Jubilee Hall’s voluntary management team, said, “The focus of this year’s Village Halls Week was ‘Celebrating, Encouraging, and Supporting Volunteers,’ so we thought it would be an ideal opportunity to bring the whole community together.
“We were delighted by the number of organisations that wanted to take part, and the hall was buzzing with people of all ages spotting themselves in the photos on display!”
“The Jubilee Hall has been at the heart of our community since it was built for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1887. Generations of villagers have dedicated themselves to keeping it in good repair, giving their time, energy, and talents on a voluntary basis.”
The hall’s volunteer bookings coordinator, Rosemary Freestone, added, “We are enormously proud of our hall, which provides a warm, welcoming space for all kinds of events right at the very heart of our community. Today’s celebration is a good example of how flexible the space is.”
Meanwhile, Parish Council Chairman Keith Rayward said, “There were a lot of new faces here today who were astonished by the variety of organisations active in the village.”
As a result of the event, organisations like The Four Villages Link, Community Speed Watch, Bratton Tidy Group, and Reeves Orchard Group all added new recruits to their numbers.
