WESTBURY planners have supported an application for an ice-cream van to trade from the White Horse Car Park.
Considering the street trading consent bid for the Mr Whippy vehicle, members recognised there had been an ice cream seller at the location for years – whether with planning consent or not.
Cllr Gordon King proposed supporting the proposal and cllr Ward Jones added, “My thought is the person who currently operates up there is applying in this way, or it is a second person, in which case we could anticipate an ice cream sales war and the price of ice creams coming down!”
Cllr Mike Kettlety added, “I don’t know but quite recently there have been people up there selling hot drinks. Whether they were licensed or not isn’t relevant to this committee but it appears to have become an enterprise zone where you might make a quick buck as a result of lockdown.
“Perhaps we could as a committee simply make the point to the people that grant these licenses that they should investigate what’s going on.”
Members voted unanimously in favour of the application which will be decided by Wiltshire Council.
