CRICKET fans in Westbury are set for an exciting day as Wiltshire County Cricket Club return to Westbury to take on Berkshire CCC in a 50-over Marlborough Cup fixture on Sunday 19th April.
The match will be played at Leighton Sports Centre, home of Westbury Cricket Club, marking another great opportunity for the local community to enjoy high-quality National Counties cricket.
Play is scheduled to begin at 11am, with spectators welcome throughout the day. Entry to the match is free.
Wiltshire CCC Chairman, John Collins, said, “We’re delighted to be returning to Westbury for this Marlborough Cup fixture. It’s a fantastic venue, and matches against Berkshire are always competitive. We’re looking forward to a strong performance from the team and hope to see plenty of support from the local community.”
Westbury & District CC Chairman, Steve Edwards, said, “It is a privilege to host county cricket again at Leighton, underlining the importance of the ground to the local game. Hosting matches like Wiltshire County Cricket Club vs Berkshire County Cricket Club provides a high quality free to attend fixture to Westbury and raises the profile of cricket in the local community.
“The occasion is especially valuable for junior players and local members, giving them something to aspire to by seeing county-level cricket on their doorstep. Anyone attending the day can expect to find a high standard of cricket and a welcoming atmosphere. The bar will be open all day serving both hot and cold drinks. Everyone is welcome.”
This is just the first of a number of Wiltshire fixtures Westbury will be hosting this season. On the 10th May Wiltshire Women will play Berkshire in two T20 matches starting at 11am. Wiltshire’s Men return on the 31st May for two T20 matches versus Cornwall starting at 11am, followed by two more T20 matches against Herefordshire on the 5th July.
