Residents are being invited to vote for a new public artwork that will form part of a community wildlife garden and wellbeing space in Penleigh Park.
The project aims to transform part of the park into an inspiring community space that brings together wildlife, wellbeing and art. Two nature-inspired designs have now been shortlisted by a commissioning group made up of local residents and the coordinator of TEAM10, a voluntary community youth group from Westbury Junior School.
Voting is taking place until Friday 5th June, with the winning design set to become a focal point of the new community space.
Tina, a local resident on the commissioning group, said, “We had our fellow residents’ best interests at heart, having local knowledge and experience of the area helped us with the process of choosing which art installations would be most suitable for the area, for many to enjoy.”
Wiltshire Council Public Art Officer Ella-mai Robey said, “What started as a brilliant idea from local residents, has become an amazing collaboration with Wiltshire Council’s Art in the Public Realm Programme, Community Conversations and Westbury Town Council. Using public art developer contributions to create such a great art project for the community is really exciting.”
Westbury Town Council Business Development Manager Benjamin Griffiths said, “Working on this project has been so enjoyable and I’m really excited to see how the public vote. Whichever way it goes, it will be an incredible addition to an already beautiful and much deserving space in Penleigh Park. The whole group have worked really hard to make this happen.”
Residents can find out more about the designs and cast their vote at a pop-up event in Penleigh Park on Thursday 4th June from 2.30pm to 4pm. A voting station will also be available at Westbury Library during opening hours until Friday 5th June.
There will also be further opportunities for residents to get involved ahead of the project’s launch later this summer.
