Members of Westbury Quilters have raised almost £1,500 for a local children’s hospice through collections, coffee mornings and a raffle of a handmade quilt.
The group meets monthly for an afternoon of sewing, quilting and conversation. Members have been fundraising for Julia’s House over the past two years.
In March, the group completed a teddy bear quilt which was raffled and raised £695. Combined with other fundraising activity, this brought the total to £1,450.39.
“We were so pleased to give a cheque for £1,450.39 to a representative from Julia’s House which will go towards helping so many families in Wiltshire,” said committee member Maureen Woollard.
Julia’s House provides practical and emotional support for families caring for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.
“Many members of the group worked to make the quilt top. Trudy Whitmarsh put the layers together and kindly quilted the finished product ready for raffling,” said Maureen.
“Mary Kneen and Jackie Williams very ably managed the project. Members sold tickets to friends and family, and the winner was thrilled with the quilt. It went to a good home.
“Westbury Quilters would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who supported them in this effort.”
The group welcomes new members, whether experienced or beginners. Meetings take place from 1pm to 4pm on the last Tuesday of each month at Heywood and Hawkeridge Village Hall. For more information, email elizabethjrose15@gmail.com.
