Westbury Junior School commemorated the 70 year anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp on Tuesday 27th January.
A special guest speaker, Pastor Ben Midgley, took a whole school assembly and then spent the afternoon with the three Year 6 classes.
The children in Year 6 have been studying ‘The Holocaust’ through the diary of Anne Frank as well as the children’s book, ‘The Boy in Striped Pyjamas’ as part of their topic this term and were able to fully appreciate the importance of this date.
After the assembly, the Year 6 pupils watched a short film, listened to their guest talk about his family’s experience during the Holocaust and then took part in a question and answer session.
This visit was valuable in bringing what is a tragic topic alive in the classroom and the children were able to discuss and share their learning with their special visitor.
Westbury Junior School would like to thank Pastor Ben Midgley for his time and expertise on this important day.
