The Secretary of State has announced that the application to build a waste incinerator in Westbury will not be ‘called in’ for further review.
It was hoped that the planning permission granted by Wiltshire Council last year, would be overturned by the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, Michael Gove MP.
In response, local MP Andrew Murrison said, “I’m surprised and deeply disappointed by the decision. The old fashioned rubbish burner being foisted on Westbury has potentially dire national significance. Similar plans elsewhere have been called in. Why not here?
“Plenty of questions for the council, the Environment Agency and government. A bleak day for Westbury.”
The application was heavily opposed by Westbury Town Council and 17 other local councils, the local MP, and local residents from towns and villages across the region.
As a result, demands were made for the application to be ‘called in’ for further inspection by the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, Michael Gove MP.
