On Remembrance Sunday 11th November 2018, 17 Westbury walkers set off from the Somerset village of Priston for a walk of some 7.5 miles led by Mike & Liz Self.
“On a glorious sunny day the group set forth through the village in an easterly direction to pick up a path along the valley bottom, to reach the edge of the next village of Inglesbatch. Dropping back down into the valley again, the route followed through Priston Mill before taking a couple of steeper climbs and a descent before reaching the small community of Wilmington. A view over fine oak trees in their autumn colours was a fitting place for a 2-minute silence of remembrance.
“A short bit of road walking led to views across to the Bristol suspension bridge and beyond to South Wales, then dropping down into the next valley to the end of Bath Spa University buildings, followed by a more level route towards Stanton Prior, with a lunch stop at the churchyard. After negotiating a rather flooded farm track out of the village, the route took rather gentler inclines over tracks and fields to complete the walk.”
