A CHARITY gig will be held at Chapmanslade Village Hall on Saturday 7th May, to raise money for the Border Terrier Welfare organisation.
Mike Teager, a member of the Cleyhill Stompers who is organising the gig said, “ I’m organising the charity gig for a remarkable, plucky little dog called Dingo, who is going for walkies to the summit of Ben Nevis on the 14th June to celebrate his recovery from a horrific accident five years ago.”
Dingo’s owner Steve Lewis said, “On June 14th, I plan to walk up the 1344m (4406ft) of Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in the UK with my border terrier, Dingo, and to raise as much money as possible for Border Terrier Welfare.
“It will mark five years to the day that he was involved in a major road accident that left him with life-changing injuries and if we reach the summit, it will be the ultimate high point in a lengthy journey of highs and lows.
“We will be walking up the mountain track which is the most straightforward route to the summit and it should be well within Dingo’s ability, he’s already got Snowdon (the highest mountain in England and Wales) under his belt along with a few other summits, so walking up and down hills all day is something he’s used to.
“However, I have spent enough time in the mountains to know that there are no certainties in hill walking, so this challenge comes with no guarantee of ‘success’ and anything from poor weather to a struggling, tired or miserable terrier will cause me to call it a day and head for home – on this trip Dingo will lead the way and there will be no force or coercion to push him beyond what he wants to do.
“True success however is getting as far as we have. For Dingo, ‘mount improbable’ has already been climbed, Ben Nevis should be a walk in the park.”
