It is always fascinating to hear a good speaker who is an expert on his or her subject, and the first October meeting of the Active Retirement Club of Westbury proved the point.
Richard Cripps, who was a lecturer at Lackham College for 35 years, was the guest speaker at the club’s meeting at the United Reformed Church Hall on Tuesday 2nd October. His subject was “Ponds in the Landscape”, and members were introduced not only to the various types of pond, but also to their social history and use, and the plants that characterise them. Discussion followed on the problems of responsibility for maintenance in the local area.
The next meeting of ARC is on Tuesday 14th October at 10.30am, when the club will hear from Felicity Herring on “Fun and Games – Victorians at Large.” I wonder what the Victorians got up to in their off-duty time?
