Local women will come together this month for a skittles competition held in memory of a woman who died from ovarian cancer.
The event honours Sue Pearce, who died from the disease in March 2006, aged 52, with money raised going towards ovarian cancer research.
Sue’s family, friends and supporters have organised the competition since 2008, raising more than £5,500 for cancer charities. Since 2021, funds raised have been donated to Ovarian Cancer Action, which funds research aimed at improving survival rates.
“Ovarian cancer is often diagnosed too late,” said event organiser Debbie Pepler. “This competition isn’t just about knocking down skittles – it’s about standing up for the women in our lives and supporting research that can save them.”
The singles skittles competition will take place at Dilton Marsh Social Club on Saturday 24th October and is open to all women aged 14 and over, with players of all abilities welcome.
Competitors will play three legs, with the highest overall score winning a place on the Sue Pearce Shield. There will also be prizes for second and third place and a charity raffle featuring prizes donated by local businesses and supporters.
Entry costs £5, with registration opening at 7pm and the competition starting at 7.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend, whether taking part or supporting from the sidelines.
Anyone interested in taking part, sponsoring the event or donating a raffle prize can contact Debbie Pepler on 07927 008440.
