WESTBURY Area Board handed out nearly £20,000 in community grants at its meeting recently.
Investing in young people was the order of the day at the meeting, when a total of £19,524 was donated to Matravers School, Fairfield College, the Youth Adventure Trust, Larkrise Riding for the Disabled and Westbury & District Cricket Club.
Matravers received £5,000 to upgrade its learning resource centre while Fairfield College received £5,000 to put towards leasing an accessible minibus. The Youth Adventure Trust received £3,024 towards its work with eight disadvantaged students at Matravers; and Larkrise Riding for the Disabled Group, based in Trowbridge, received £1,500 towards improvements to its horse shelter. The amount will be added to grants from Trowbridge and Melksham area boards.
Westbury & District Cricket Club received £5,000 towards replacing its practice nets, which were storm damaged. The facility is particularly useful to the club’s growing youth section, but is open to players of all ages and to the public.
