A WESTBURY author has published his autobiography about his time as a train driver in Westbury and working in the British railway industry.
‘Right Away!’ by Steve Davies, describes the highs and lows of his 48-year career, including his move to Westbury in 1980 where he worked as a train driver, driving both passenger and freight trains.
“I have tried to make it of interest not only for readers with some railway knowledge, but also for those who may have little or none,” said Steve.
“My book includes chapters on train driving techniques, accidents, industrial relations, privatisation of the railway industry, various incidents including runaway trains and several personal close shaves are also covered.
“My involvement in a suicide and the prevention of another, are a couple of the more emotional experiences that I underwent as a train driver. On a lighter side there is a poem describing one particular journey from Bristol to Weymouth, the time when a gorilla was seen to be driving a train and the occasion when I was mistaken for E.T!
“I also recall many of the helpful, friendly and trustworthy colleagues I was fortunate enough to work alongside and both good and bad managers that I encountered during my career.”
Steve’s book, ‘Right Away!’ is available now on Amazon, priced at £8.99.
