Rescued Westbury swan reunited with family

A swan rescued from a Westbury lake with a fishing hook in its head has been safely reunited with its family. 

Volunteers from Bath Swan Rescue were called to Vivash Park last month to help a male swan which had a weighted barbed hook through its head. The swan was captured after four days of rescue attempts and transferred to The Swan Sanctuary where it received treatment.

The swan has now returned home and been reunited with its family.

“A huge thank you to the fantastic team at Bath Swan Rescue for their expert care, and to our Westbury Town Council rangers for their assistance,” said a spokesperson from Westbury Town Council.

“It’s wonderful to see this swan family back together again!”

Westbury Town Council has reminded people that barbed hooks are not permitted at Vivash Park and urged anglers to dispose of fishing tackle responsibly. Bath Swan Rescue has also encouraged residents to keep an eye out for discarded angling gear at the park following the incident.
