Westbury Ladies were excited to travel to North Petherton RFC, as it would be the first time the two sides had met.
Mew recruits Hannah Haynes, Laurie Clothier and Ciara Lennon made their debuts for the club.
From kick-off, the visitors put North Petherton under pressure with some crowd-pleasing tackles and some fantastic defensive play. It wasn’t long before Westbury worked the ball into the hands Sasha Smith, who sprinted down the pitch to cross the line and make the score 0-5 to Westbury Ladies. Conversion taken by Lana Plummer making the score 0-7.
In the second half, North Petherton crossed the line first, unconverted, making the score 5-7. Westbury Ladies were camped on the 15-metre line and were eventually rewarded, after some strong forward work, with a try from Anna Hemingway, making the score 5-12, unconverted.
North Petherton began looking dangerous and scored next to even things up at 12-12. Spurred on, Westbury went on the attack again with Anna Hemingway crossing the line for her second try of the game, unconverted. This brought the scores to a nail biting 12-17 with just 10 minutes to go.
With the clock counting down, North Petherton made another fantastic break to even the score up to 17-17 with the whistle being blown not long after.
The ladies are away to Devizes Ladies on Sunday 3rd November. The team says, “As always, we hope to see you all there.”
