Sat. 21st Sept. Toolstation Premier League Westbury United 2 Shepton Mallet 5
A seriously bad day at the office unfolded for Westbury Utd, who were swept aside by Shepton’s incisive attacking football in the hot sunshine at Meadow Lane.
They will have to put this behind them, pull their socks up and look to get back on track quickly.
The first half was even; Ricky Hulbert forced Jonny Hill into an excellent early save before Conrad Peck opened the scoring for the visitors on 10 minutes, with a crisp left footed finish.
Ryan Bole and Callum Ham came to the fore for United, but both had bustling runs ended by good defending in the final third.
Play became stop-start due to injuries and a drinks break, then Westbury equalised on 35 when Jamie Jordan’s corner was met by Steve Hulbert, whose effort was blocked and Ricky Hulbert was on hand to hook the ball into the net.
Mallet regained the lead just before the break when the ball broke to Cameron Allen, who hit a fine low shot in off Ed Baldy’s left hand post.
Shepton were on the front foot from the off after half time and Jack Fillingham put a shot wide before producing a brilliant finish at the end of a counter attack on 47. Sam Jordan came agonisingly close to making it 2-3, but Westbury were dealt a further blow when Fillingham set up Aaron Seviour to open up a 3 goal advantage.
Things went from bad to worse when Ricky Hulbert was sin binned for dissent and Mallet added a fifth through another top drawer Fillingham finish on 72!
Joe Stradling notched a late consolation with a 20 yarder.
