Pupils from Bratton Primary School have been busy learning about Bonfire Night and the festival of Diwali recently with two creative theme days.
During the Whizz Bang Boom Day, the children started with an assembly to learn about the history of 5th November and the story of Guy Fawkes and the failed gunpowder plot. The day was packed with a variety of art and craft activities as pupils moved around the school visiting different classrooms.
Each class teacher led a bonfire or fireworks-themed lesson, which included creating paper bonfires, designing firework pictures with stickers, building 3D rockets, and experimenting with firework painting using paint, watercolours, glue and table salt.
Mrs Hawke, the school’s art lead, said, “What a wonderful, colourful day! Witnessing the children’s fascination about the bonfire story and seeing their imaginative art has been a pleasure.”
The school also held a whole-school R.E day to learn about Diwali and immerse themselves in Hindu culture. The children discovered Hindu customs and traditions surrounding the festival and learned the story of Rama and Sita. Each class enjoyed a creative afternoon making Rangoli patterns, Diwali elephants, candles, jewel-encrusted lamps and Rangoli suncatchers.
Mrs Gurr, the school’s R.E lead, said, “We had a wonderful creative day exploring Diwali. We have two students at Bratton School who have recently celebrated Diwali at home with their families. It was really lovely to hear about their personal traditions, which included fireworks and special food.”
