Sat 20th Aug. West of England Wiltshire Division Potterne 239 all out/ Westbury 347/9 Westbury won by 108
WESTBURY travelled to play local rivals Potterne in the latest West of England Wiltshire Division hoping to continue their winning run and also make certain that they will continue in the same league for the 2023 season.
Westbury made three changes from the comfortable home win against bottom team Devizes with Chris Thompson, Aidan Wicks and Richard Oakley coming in for Richard Mills, Ben Whiting and Garic Hopkins.
Westbury won the toss and had no hesitation in deciding to bat first. They opened the batting with Thompson and Clack and they made a bad start when with the total at 5, Potterne struck by having James Clack bowled by Perera for 4.
Daniel Gill then came to the wicket, and they took the total to 61 when Westbury lost their second wicket when Gill was bowled by Ben Mason for 31. The club’s leading run scorer Dylan Hulett then arrived at the wicket to join Thompson.
Both Thompson and Hulett played their shots but when the total reached 104 Westbury lost their third wicket when Thompson was out bowled for a good 28 made off 51 balls. After his dismissal Westbury lost three quick wickets for the loss of 38 runs with Kane Scott (8), Aidan Wicks (9) and Luke Dilena (0) the batsman out.
Then Dylan Hulett ably supported by James Dark played some blistering shots with Hulett the dominating batsman and he reached his 50 in 52 minutes. His 100 was made in 65 balls but when the total reached 294 Hulett was out for 150 made off 93 balls (19×4 and 8x6s).
At the end of their allotted 50 overs Westbury had accumulated a brilliant score of 347 for 9 wickets; James Dark was unbeaten on 44.
When Potterne batted they made a bad start by losing half their side for 104 and it was only due to the batting of the captain Josh Hodder (63) and Ethan Hutchings (50) that Potterne made a reasonable total of 239 all out. Richard Oakley (10-1-46-5) had the best figures ably supported by Daniel Gill (10-1-48-3).
This was a determined team performance by a very committed and determined bunch of players which bodes well for the future.
