THE Café Church at Westbury Junior School celebrated its third birthday on Sunday 10th February.
Café Church at Westbury Junior School was started by the then team vicar, Rev Steve Jarvis, and a group of volunteers from across the White Horse Team. It is held in the school hall on the second Sunday of the month at 10am.
It followed on from the success of Café Church in the Memorial Hall, Dilton Marsh, which will be celebrating its fifth birthday in the autumn.
Sharon Jones of Café Church said, “We wanted to do something different with a relaxed atmosphere but not in a church building. Westbury Juniors is a Church of England school and is linked to the church, they kindly let us have the use of the hall.
“We try to provide a family-friendly atmosphere with craft and activities that can be enjoyed by any age. We have discussions on various topics and like to use the cartoon Brick Bible to illustrate the reading for the day if we can.
“Breakfast is provided throughout the hour, so you can have an extra 10 minutes in bed. At previous Café Church gatherings we have iced biscuits, made crackers, tried origami and planted bulbs, amongst other things. We end with a worship song linked to that Sunday’s reading. Now usually led by Ashley Jones, licensed lay minister, we try to continue the work Steve started.
“We’d like to thank everyone who helps keep Café Church running and Westbury Junior School for their generosity.
“You can find us on Face Book, Café Church Westbury area. Café Church is usually held in Dilton on the third Sunday of the month, but it will be held on 24th Feb this month as Rev Rhona’s farewell service will be on the 17th.”
