WESTBURY’S U3A group held its end of year meeting recently with an evening of cakes and a quiz.
Club member Maggie Skyrme reports, “There was a festive atmosphere as members gathered for the December general meeting at the Chalford House Hotel.
“Greeted with a fruit punch on arrival, everyone was then able to sit and chat to friends old and new. Tea was then served; this included a splendid variety of savouries and cakes, all of which were greatly enjoyed.
“After refreshments a raffle was drawn and then the ‘little grey cells’ were severely tested by a general knowledge quiz. The winning team got nearly all the questions correct and certainly deserved their prizes. Thanks are due to Anne Thompson for organising the event so well and to Julie Vince for her challenging quiz.
“In January the Lunch Club meets on the 4th, (12 midday onwards) at The Horse and Groom. A very good way to start 2017, all U3A members are welcome.
“The monthly Tuesday meeting is held on the second Tuesday of each month starting at 2pm in the United Reformed Church Hall. Curious non-members are invited to come for a free sample meeting.
“Upcoming talks include: 10th January, Liz Argent – WWI: The One Who Returned; 14th February, Dickon Povey – The Seamier Side of Bath 1702 -1803; 14th March – Ashley Jones on senior safety; 11th April, Ben Kane – A Walk along Hadrian’s Wall.”
