GREEN thumbed Westbury Shed members have generously donated a selection of fresh produce from their allotment to the local food bank.
Shed members have been hard at work in their allotment on Chestnut Grove throughout the summer and decided to share the fruits of their labour with the foodbank, the community fridge and to shed attendees and neighbours.
Shed organisers say that nothing gets wasted in their allotment. Linda Hallowell trustee of the Westbury Shed said, “Despite not having a mains water supply at our Chestnut Grove allotment, we are still able to grow some wonderful produce, which has been shared out with the local community.
“Nothing gets wasted here and our produce is doing a little bit to support our community in accessing fresh, healthy ingredients. None of this would be possible without our Chestnut Grove neighbours, Chris and Pam, who provide us with much needed water, a huge thanks to them both, a real example of our community working together.”
Westbury Shed is a branch of the Men’s Sheds – a community space for men to connect and create with activities that are similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. Their aim is to help reduce loneliness and isolation.
Westbury Shed, which is based at the Westbury Community Project on Eden Vale Road, is still undergoing major changes follow their relocation, but the group says they are aiming to be back to their full strength by mid-September.
If you are interested in creating something, upcycling, or sharing your knowledge, skills and experience, then keep an eye out for details of when the Shed will be back open for business, which will be posted on social media, the Westbury Shed Facebook page and in the White Horse News.
