In the first five minutes it looked like Calne were there for the taking.
With three experienced regulars missing from their starting lineup it looked as if they weren’t able to handle Westbury, but after 6 minutes Calne had a chance to counter and a strike from Mark Dolman gave them the lead.
Only 3 minutes later a mistake on Westbury’s right hand side gave Aaron Witchell the space to cross. The ball tantalisingly rolled across the face of the Westbury goal for Bill Boakes to come in at the far post to finish.
On 19 minutes things went from bad to worse, another mistake from Westbury gave Calne’s Josh Legg the chance to pounce on a loose ball, round the keeper and score.
Westbury continued to press but were struggling to put any sort of quality move together, and most opportunities just fizzled out. Westbury keeper Ben Forester was definitely the busier.
Even after the break Calne were more effective, hitting the bar in the 48th minute and Forester continuing to be the more active keeper.
Calne’s left winger Witchell was effective every time he picked up the ball and his pace was a real handful to deal with.
On the 83rd minute he cut into the box and was brought down, the referee was well positioned and awarded the penalty. Dolman stepped up and scored Calne’s fourth.
It took until the 89th minute for Westbury to register a shot on target, a real bad day at the office especially when you consider that at five minutes past three Westbury were set up with a strong starting eleven and probably the strongest bench they’ve named all season against a Calne team who admitted that they were struggling for players due to illness and injury. Credit goes to Calne; they countered well and took their chances when they came.
Westbury star man: goalkeeper Ben Forester. It could have easily been five or six if Forester hadn’t played well.
