GET set for a host of special events and services happening in Dilton Marsh parish in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

There are a variety of events taking place at Holy Trinity Church in the High Street, St Mary’s Church, Old Dilton and All Saints Tin Church in Brokerswood from Sunday 27th November until the big day on Sunday 25th December.

Organisers say, “These events are centred on giving – for others, from the church and the greatest gift of all – the birth of Jesus Christ for all, celebrated on Christmas Day!”

Advent Sunday, service of holy communion and gift service – Sunday 27th November at 9.30am at Holy Trinity Church. Dilton Marsh Mother’s Union are requesting donations of Christmas gifts for the families who are resident at Salisbury Women’s Refuge. Any of the following would be very welcome: unwrapped children’s books (for ages up to 11 years), gift vouchers (particularly from Tesco), toiletries, chocolates and variety boxes. Mother’s Union members will take the gifts to the 16 Days of activism against gender-based abuse service in the cathedral.

Christmas ‘meet the village’ coffee morning and table top sale – Saturday 3rd December, at 10am to 12pm, Holy Trinity Church. There will be a free Christmas cupcake for all, a Christmas hamper and even a raffle! Table hire is free and supplied. For bookings call Garth 01373 822414 or Sue 01373 229618.
Second Sunday of Advent, service of praise and worship and gift service for The Samaritans – Sunday 4th December at 9.30am, Holy Trinity Church. Those that attend have been asked to bring a gift (a new item) for a child, unwrapped. All gifts will be blessed and taken to the Salvation Army, in Trowbridge, to be distributed in good time for Christmas.

Advent carol service – Sunday 11th December at 6pm, Holy Trinity. Warminster Brass Band will be in attendance.

Annual candlelight carol service – Friday 16th December at 6pm, St Mary’s Church in Old Dilton. Reverend Caroline will be leading the service. The inside of this historic church has changed little since the 18th century and is crowded with plain, bleached box pews, some built on the original medieval benches, a three- decker pulpit, family pews and two small galleries. Please note there is no electricity or heating so please wear suitable clothing and bring torches. If you can car share all the better. Walkers, please make sure you can be seen.

Nativity Service – Sunday 18th December at 9.30am, Holy Trinity. Costumes welcome! Christmas Eve carol service – Sunday 24th December at 6pm, All Saints, Tin Church, Brokerswood. Midnight Mass – Sunday 24th December at 11.30pm. The first Holy Communion of Christmas.
Parish holy communion service – Sunday 25th December, at 9.30am. Lead by Reverend Caroline and the Lego Church team.  Sunday 25th December – Christmas Day, 9.30am Parish holy communion service lead by Reverend Caroline and the Lego Church team.
