To celebrate the 100th Corsley Show on this Bank Holiday Monday, 27th August, there is a fantastic range of acts and activities lined up for all ages!
Organisers say, “The star attraction at the show this year will be the Devil’s Horsemen performing jousting and Cossack-trick riding to delight the crowds!
“Britain’s top equestrian stunt team, The Devil’s Horsemen, will enthral with their display of skill and daredevil antics in the main arena. With film and TV accolades such as Game of Thrones, The Crown, Transformers and Downton Abbey, this is going to be spectacular, so make a date in your diary to see something amazing!
“For the petrol-heads amongst you, the show welcomes Red Bull Cut It for a whole weekend of lawn mower racing – the heats take place on Saturday and Sunday with the finals for this madness being fiercely fought for on bank holiday Monday – show day.
In you prefer a more sedate experience, the classic/ vintage vehicle show promises to out-do last year’s show when we hosted over 200 exhibitors – classic and vintage cars, motorbikes, commercial and military vehicles. It is planned that vehicles from each decade of the show will take a turn in the main arena during the afternoon.
“The day kicks off with children’s sports – there’s a commemorative 100th Show mug for every child who takes part (kindly sponsored by Longleat), and don’t forget the mass tug-of-war – children versus mums and dads!
“The Horticulture & Crafts marquee is always a highlight of the Corsley Show and you will be astounded by the excellence on display, along with amazing exhibits from the National Vegetable Society growers.
“Teams of six are invited to have a go at this year’s ‘It’s a Knockout’ in the main arena – sign up your team of your daftest mates and give it a go – you’re in with a chance of winning a trophy! The annual tug-of- war contest will see local teams battling it out for supremacy once again – who will take home the hideous trophy this year?
“In other corners of the scenic showfield, you’ll find Frome Town Archers where you can bring out your inner Robin Hood; Springboard Gymnastics and Infinity Dance will be displaying their skills and Terry will be putting his ferrets through their paces at the races!
“‘Tractor-drawn’ trailer rides around the showfield will be on offer again this year for a grandstand view of all the activities going on, or you can hop onto the West Wilts Society of Model Engineers’ miniature steam railway. Back by popular demand, model engineers will display their exquisite replicas to study in the Horticulture and Crafts marquee.
“Shhhhh! Don’t tell everyone, but Magic the ‘Unicorn’ and her pony friends will be taking the children for rides throughout the day.
“Trot along to the beer tent to enjoy a well-earned drink whilst the band entertains with live music. If peace and quiet is what you’re after, there’s a chance for a cup of tea and a sit-down at the tea tent.
“A huge choice of refreshments, dozens of stalls and activities, side shows will keep the entire family amused throughout the day, including the Horse & Pony Show (dressage and jumping), Dog Show (by permission of the Kennel Club) and fun fair.
“There is something for everyone to enjoy – so come on over to Corsley and celebrate the 100th show!
