MUSIC festival Sunrise says it is concentrating on delivering an ‘outstanding’ festival, after it was granted a licence to hold its event at Thoulstone Park near Chapmanslade.
While festival organisers promise a family-friendly event with a host of activities and music, local residents had raised objections which included fears of traffic chaos and late-night noise.
Advertising itself as ‘the UK’s leading sustainable music and arts festival’, the event has been run for seven years on sites near Yeovil and Bruton.
‘Sunrise: Another World’ hopes to attract up to 7,000 people when it is held on its new site in Thoulstone from the 30th May to 2nd June.
A licence hearing was held at the Laverton by the Western Area Licensing Sub Committee on 22nd April, which took the full day to reach a conclusion. Representations were made by festival organisers, local residents, and council officers.
The sub-committee said it acknowledged the concerns raised by residents on public safety, public nuisance, and crime and disorder. However, it said the issues have been ‘appropriately addressed’ in the festival’s event management plan.
Festival organisers say they are looking forward to bringing a huge diversity of entertainment, debate, and cultural exchange to Thoulstone.
