CHILDREN gave life to garbage earlier this month in a junk modelling event held by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
The junk modelling took place at Westbury Library in February, and was designed to try and reshape the way children think about waste and recycling.
The trust’s waste minimisation officer, Aisling Hunt said, “Over 35 children attended our junk modelling workshop and found all sorts of creative ways to reuse rubbish.
“The litter, which may otherwise have ended up in a landfill site, was transformed into robots, dinosaurs and superheroes!
“We find that running a fun waste activity like junk modelling is a great way to get people to think about rubbish in a new way.
“It also gives us the chance to explain why the wildlife trust is involved with waste and why making some changes to your bins can help the environment both on a local level and more nationally.
“We will be running workshops, events and working with the local schools to get Westbury thinking about rubbish!”
One mum said, “It was a great event and all efforts to arrange it were very much appreciated! The children had a great time and their creations are now displayed at home.”
The event was part of the Recycle for Wiltshire project, a joint partnership between Wiltshire Council and Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. The project aims to get people reducing, reusing and recycling and project officers will be working in Westbury for the next year.
