MATRAVERS School is asking the Westbury community to help raise £500,000 to complete their building project of a new 23-classroom teaching block.
Matravers School is currently building a new state-of-the-art building funded by a multi-million pound government investment to provide new classrooms areas for STEM subjects for the young people of Westbury.
However, the government-backed scheme has a funding limit and the infrastructure in most of the rooms will not be provided by the scheme.
Matravers School headteacher, Dr Simon Riding, has approached the local community to help raise the money for furniture, technology and a new sports provision.
He wrote, “I am writing to all local businesses to ask them to consider supporting the young people of Westbury further through enabling them to access not only state-of-the-art buildings, but also the infrastructure that goes with it.
“Our aim is to raise £500,000 to complete the entire building project to world-class status. This will provide new equipment in all classrooms and provide additional sports provision when the existing maths, science and technology block is demolished.
“You may think that this is a highly aspirational aim; it is! We think the children of Westbury and beyond deserve nothing less.
“Therefore, we would welcome any donation that you can make to help us meet our aims. In return, alongside being part of the Matravers family, we will provide full recognition of your generosity, through publicity streams and mechanisms.
“Any individual or group that fully funds an entire provision costs will have a commemorative plaque placed in an appropriate place to recognise their contribution and generosity.”
Pinniger Finch & Co, solicitors in Westbury, have already donated £1,000 towards the project.
Bill White, senior partner at Pinniger Finch & Co is one of the trustees and the clerk for the Gaisford charity. He said, “The charity meet once a year and wanted to support a requirement in the local community which provided for a scheme that would have longevity and help young people in the town.
“The trustees understood that Matravers School was in the process of building a new IT block, but required assistance to furnish the facility. We were delighted to provide some financial support for this wonderful project for the school and its pupils.”
To contribute to the project contact the school business manager James Paveley on jpaveley@matravers.wilts.sch.uk or 01373 855242, or you can send a cheque payable to “Matravers School”.
