Children of all ages came along to The Laverton in Westbury for the Children’s Junk Model Workshop on Saturday 17th October.
The workshop was organised by Westbury Town Council in partnership with Gail Grimes and Jessica Thimbleby from the Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.
Gail and Jessica brought along lots of general household junk, including plastic bottles, fabrics, cardboard boxes, and magazines. The children then created their own models (with a little help from mums and dads) using the junk, and holding everything together with carefully positioned glue and sellotape.
At the end of the workshop, the children took away their models, which included a castle, a lighthouse and a kaleidoscope.
On Saturday 7th November, the children will bring all their models back to The Laverton for display and judging. The competition will be judged by the Mayor and Mayoress at 2.30pm. The winner of each category (3-5yrs, 6-8yrs and 9-11yrs) will be able to help the Mayor switch on the Westbury Christmas Lights, at the street event on Saturday 28 November.
If you missed the workshop, you can still enter the competition; all you need to do is make your model at home (it doesn’t need to be a Christmas theme) and bring it to The Laverton in time for the judging at 2.30pm on Saturday 7th November.
