Westbury Choral Society’s annual Christmas concert will take place at Westbury Methodist Church on Friday 19th December, commencing at 7.30pm.
Under its conductor Luke Pickett and accompanied by Gary Desmond at the organ, the choir will present an evening of varied seasonal music including movements from Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols and ‘ The Shepherds Farewell’ by Berlioz.
The evening will also include arrangements of familiar carols as well as illustrating the wealth of Christmas music that is being written today with such items as ‘What Child is This’ and ‘My Lord has Come’. Together with audience carols and some readings that should raise a smile, the concert should prove an appropriate programme as Christmas approaches.
Tickets are £7 (accompanied children free) and are available from Westbury Visitors Centre, society members or at the door.
It will be a busy weekend as the following day members have been invited both to take part in the Carol Festival at Imber Church and to entertain residents, families and friends at Watersmead Care Home. The society has also supported the Christmas Tree Festival at Westbury Parish Church.
Rehearsals for the society’s Spring Concert begin on Wednesday 7th January when the main item will be Faure’s Requiem. This work will be the subject of a workshop on Saturday 17th January.
