A festive family fun day is set to take place next weekend as part of an ongoing campaign to support a young Westbury boy living with a rare genetic condition.
The event, called Drae’s Christmas Wish, will run on Saturday 13th December, 12 noon to 11pm, and promises a full day of entertainment at Players on the West Wilts Trading Estate.
Visitors can expect more than 50 stalls, live music all day and into the evening from local acts, raffles and a tombola along with children’s performances and a visit from Father Christmas and a real-life elf.
Animals, mulled wine, food, mini fairground rides, a Bluey appearance, a coconut shy, giant sparklers and marshmallow toasting will also feature.
The fun day is the latest fundraiser organised by the family of three-year-old Drae Mead-Strong, who was born with TBCK syndrome. The rare and life-limiting condition affects his brain and nervous system and means he cannot sit, walk or support his head. He also lives with epilepsy, scoliosis and severe muscle weakness.
His mum Rachel Mead describes him as “the happiest, most loving little boy, who fills our lives with so much joy.” The family is raising money to adapt their home and provide specialist equipment to support his care needs. “We are raising funds to give Drae the care, equipment and experiences he deserves,” said Rachel. “Safe spaces at home, specialist equipment or days out as a family can make a world of difference and help us create precious memories together.”
The campaign has already seen strong community backing, with local people donating items and attending events. The latest event was a prize bingo evening organised by supporter Lizzie raised £1,120. “I’d like to thank every single person that has donated and supported us by attending our events, without people like you, none of this would be possible,” said Rachel.
