Westbury business owners Andy and Cristina Burden, of All Drainage Services, are hoping that their Christmas lights display can help raise money for the cancer unit of Bath’s Royal United Hospital.
Every December, Andy and Cristina illuminate their house for the festive period, and this year, they are asking for any donations to be made towards the Bath Cancer Unit Support Group, who support cancer care within the RUH.
Andy explained that this charity has been close to their hearts for many years, having lost a couple of friends to the disease. However, this year their lights display is in memory of Gill Down, who sadly lost her three-year battle with cancer last December, aged only 46.
“We hadn’t known Gill very long, when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer, but she was a lovely lady, so full of fun, and we were all devastated when she passed away just before Christmas,” said Andy. “Gill was a supporter of the BCUSG charity, having been treated at the cancer unit throughout her illness, and we feel it is only right that this year’s display is in her memory.”
Marie Brichard-Parsons, a member of the Trowbridge fundraising branch of the charity said, “We are very grateful for Andy and Cristina’s support. Gill was a friend of the charity, who supported many of our local fundraising events, both by helping to organise them or by bringing along a group of friends to join in the fun and fundraising.”
Andy and Cristina’s lights can be seen on the corner of Coach Lane, at the exit of the A350 for the White Horse Country Park, on the Trowbridge side of Westbury.
