Local antiques expert Paul Martin, widely recognized as the presenter of the BBC TV programme Flog It!, made a return visit to Westbury this month to value a range of fascinating and unique items.
The valuation day, held on 14th August at the Horse and Groom, attracted a large crowd, with locals bringing in everything from heirloom jewellery to a rare Nazi dagger.
Speaking with White Horse News during the event, Paul shared his excitement over the variety of items he encountered. “There’s been plenty of gold and silver—lots of the usual suspects! One of the most interesting pieces today was a Second World War German Nazi dagger.”
Another standout item was a vintage golf club. “We’ve got a golf club with a hickory shaft that’s lead-weighted and inlaid with bone on the hitting slip,” Paul explained. “It’s an old Tom Morris— he was one of the most famous golfers in the late Victorian era.”
“I’ve come across a mixture of everything here: postcard albums, gold, silver and porcelain,” he added.
Among the attendees was Mike Rowe, who brought along a Seiko watch that had been tucked away for over two decades. He was pleasantly surprised to learn that the watch was valued at over £500. “It’s been sitting in a drawer for the last 20 years, and I had it serviced last year. The jeweller suggested getting it valued,” Mike said. “It turned out to be a great afternoon for me!”
Reflecting on the event, Paul praised the community, saying, “The people of Westbury are brilliant—they’ve brought in some truly weird and wacky stuff!”
